History
What is the History of Chiapa de Corzo?
The history of Chiapa de Corzo dates back to the pre-Columbian era when the region was inhabited by various indigenous groups, including the Chiapanecas.
In 1528, the Spanish conquistador Diego de Mazariegos founded the Villa Real de Chiapa de los Indios, which later came to be known as Chiapa de Corzo. It was the first Spanish city established in what is now the state of Chiapas.

Where is Chiapa de Corzo located?
It is located in the central region of the State of Chiapas, along the banks of the Grijalva River. It borders the municipality of San Fernando to the north, the municipality of Tuxtla Gutiérrez (the state capital) to the south, the municipalities of Osumacinta and Suchiapa to the east, and the municipality of Venustiano Carranza to the west.

Fiesta Grande and the Dance of the Parachicos

Each group of Chuntaes is led by a captain, who stands out by wearing a different mask and a more elaborate attire.
