Palizada is a Magical Town located on the banks of the Palizada River, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation.

The name of the town comes from the river and means “Place where palms abound”.

Palizada has been considered one of the Magical Towns of Mexico since December 1st, 2011. 🎂

History

What is the history of Palizada?

The history of Palizada dates back to ancient times, before the arrival of the Spaniards. The region was inhabited by various indigenous groups, including the Mayans. It is believed that the Mayans established settlements in the area around the 3rd century BC.

During the colonial period, Palizada was founded by the Spaniards in 1750 under the name “San Joaquín de Palizada.”

Where is Palizada located?

Palizada is located in the southwestern part of the state of Campeche, forming part of the Tabasqueña Plain, in the river region, near the Laguna de Términos. It is bordered by the river of the same name.

It is connected to the east with Escárcega, Campeche, to the south with Palenque, Chiapas, and to the west with Villahermosa, Tabasco.

What are the Festivities of Palizada Magic Town?

In Palizada, Campeche, various festivals and celebrations are held throughout the year. Some of the main festivities you can enjoy during your visit are:

Main Fair

It is celebrated in honor of the Patron Saint “Señor de San Joaquín” from August 15th to 31st, and it is celebrated with an agricultural and livestock fair.

Corpus Christi Fair

It is held in honor of the Señor de Tila, also known as Cristo de Tila, which is a highly revered image of the Crucified Jesus in Palizada and the surrounding towns. The chapel of Señor de Tila was built with the financial contributions of the people of Palizada.

Carnival

On January 20th, the Carnival of Palizada begins, and young people and children participate in contests of comparsas (parade groups), costumes, floats, and carnival kings and queens to celebrate it.
