The name of the town comes from the river and means “Place where palms abound”.

What is the history of Palizada?
The history of Palizada dates back to ancient times, before the arrival of the Spaniards. The region was inhabited by various indigenous groups, including the Mayans. It is believed that the Mayans established settlements in the area around the 3rd century BC.
During the colonial period, Palizada was founded by the Spaniards in 1750 under the name “San Joaquín de Palizada.”

Where is Palizada located?
Palizada is located in the southwestern part of the state of Campeche, forming part of the Tabasqueña Plain, in the river region, near the Laguna de Términos. It is bordered by the river of the same name.
It is connected to the east with Escárcega, Campeche, to the south with Palenque, Chiapas, and to the west with Villahermosa, Tabasco.
